The Challenge
MDTA LLC, an innovative, multi-product, quantitative investment management boutique was seeking to accelerate growth through an affiliation with a large and established money management company, to preserve a high degree of independence and investment autonomy for the investment team, and to provide liquidity for the passive, private-equity shareholders. Putnam Lovell was hired as financial advisor to find the answer.
The Solution
MDTA was acquired by Federated Investors Inc., a leading provider of investment management products and related financial services, and a publicly traded entity with a market capitalization exceeeding $3.4 billion.
Results
The transaction provided MDTA with access to Federated's strong mutual fund and institutional distribution platform, the ability to leverage Federated's business infrastructure, and access to seed capital for additional MDTA strategies. The acquisition enhanced Federated's product offerings by creating a quantitative line of equity mutual funds to complement its funds lineup and boosted Federated's presence in the Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) channel.
