Putnam Lovell NBF Appoints Ben Phillips, Investment Management Industry Expert, as Managing Director and Head of Strategic Research

PhillipsNEW YORK, January 10, 2006 – Putnam Lovell NBF Securities Inc., a leading investment bank to the global financial services community, is pleased to announce the appointment of Benjamin F. (Ben) Phillips as a Managing Director of Investment Banking in the company’s Financial Institutions Group.

At New York-based Putnam Lovell NBF, Mr. Phillips, a widely respected expert on the global investment management business, fills a new position, overseeing strategic research on traditional and alternative fund management firms. Mr. Phillips, 33, who joins the company in February, will also advise Putnam Lovell NBF clients on strategy and execution. He will be based primarily in the company’s Boston and New York offices.

Prior to Putnam Lovell NBF, Mr. Phillips worked as a Managing Director at Boston-based Cerulli Associates, a strategic research and consulting firm focused on the fund management industry worldwide. While at Cerulli, where he spent approximately eight years, Mr. Phillips was responsible for developing and executing the firm’s global research efforts, and for providing strategic advice to mutual fund companies, banks, insurers, and government agencies in the US and overseas. Mr. Phillips also established and managed Cerulli’s international research division, which generated strategic market intelligence on retail and institutional markets worldwide.

Before working at Cerulli, Mr. Phillips spent five years reporting on the asset management industry, initially at Investment Management Weekly and Return on Investment (ROI) magazine, where he served as managing editor, and later as a senior editor at Institutional Investor.

A summa cum laude graduate of Boston University’s College of Communications, Mr. Phillips is earning his master’s degrees in business administration from Columbia University and the London Business School.
